LATEST FORECAST Columbus, OH

With clear skies we have another cold night on the way. We will need to cover the plants at least one more time this season. Frost advisories are posted. Protect the plants! Scattered showers arrive for portions of Friday and Saturday but a beautiful day on Sunday.

FROST ADVISORY for North Central Ohio, including Marion, Bucyrus, Mt. Gilead, Mt. Vernon, and Upper Sandusky through 8am Thursday. Sensitive plants may be damaged or killed by frost if left unprotected.

WEDNESDAY night: mainly clear, cold, patchy frost, urban lows near 40, rural lows in the mid-30s.
THURSDAY: mostly sunny in the morning becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon, warm, high 75.
FRIDAY: mostly cloudy, breezy, scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, high 79.
SATURDAY: scattered showers through midday then mostly cloudy in the afternoon, cooler, high 70.
SUNDAY: partly cloudy becoming mostly sunny, mild, high 75.
MONDAY: mostly sunny, high 76.
TUESDAY: partly cloudy, high 79.
WEDNESDAY: mostly sunny, high 80.

High pressure in the great lakes is creating brilliant conditions across most of the region. Clear sky, plenty of sunshine, and low humidity will be delightfully comfortable. With clearing skies overnight, however, temperatures across much of the region are likely to drop in to the lower-40s in urban areas and mid-30s in rural areas. FROST ADVISORIES are posted for the overnight hours and Thursday morning as temperatures dip cold enough to cause damage to sensitive plants. We need to do some covering at least one more time this season!

High pressure moves toward New England on Thursday but still provides plenty of protection for Ohio. We will enjoy lots of sunshine during the day with clouds thickening later in the evening. The southerly breeze will also help boost our temperatures a bit.

By Friday, a cold front slides into the Upper Great Lakes and Mid-Mississippi River Valley. The southwesterly flow into Ohio will push our temperatures above average but also will bring in more humidity and a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Most of the rain holds off until nearly midday or later with scattered showers developing in the late afternoon. We may hear some thunder in the evening and overnight hours. The storms aren’t expected to be severe, but some downpours will be possible. The front and its low-pressure center will move through Lake Erie and Ohio on Saturday with scattered showers for the first half of the day. By mid-afternoon, the showers begin to taper off and we see some occasional sunshine break through the clouds. High pressure begins to build back into the region on Sunday and remains our dominant influence through the middle of next week.
